WC 2018 Qualifiers: Uganda holds Ghana plus full fixture list
he first round of World Cup qualifying matches for Africa kicked off on Friday afternoon in Ghana. Where the Black Stars hosted their Ugandan counterparts in a group E game.
Led by former Chelsea coach, Avram Grant, the Ghana side looking to reach their fourth straight World Cup, were held to a goalless draw by the visitors at the Tamale Sports Stadium in the countryโ€™s north.
Ghana have not beaten Uganda in their last two clashes with the Cranes and that record was preserved to the credit of the Ugandans who return to Kampala with a point.
There are five groups of four nations in this final round of qualification with only the group winners advancing to Russia 2018.
Nigeria, Cameroon, Algeria, Ivory Coast and Ghana represented the continent in the 2010 (South Africa) and 2014 (Brazil) editions.
That is however set to change because three of these sides (Nigeria, Cameroon and Algeria) are pooled along with Zambia (who have never qualified for the World Cup finals) in one group.
The other fixtures will take place across the weekend, including African Cup champions Ivory Coast v Mali on Saturday and Zambia v Nigeria on Sunday.
Saturday
  • Gabon vs. Morocco
  • DRC vs. Libya
  • Ivory Coast vs. Mali
  • Burkina Faso vs. South Africa
  • Senegal vs. Cape Verde
Sunday
  • Zambia vs. Nigeria
  • Republic of Congo vs. Egypt
  • Tunisia vs. Guinea
  • Algeria vs. Cameroon
