Nigerian Army Set To Produce Its Own Weapons
The Nigerian Army has confirmed that everything was set for it to
start manufacturing its own weapons as it sought to strengthen its fight
against Boko Haram and the Niger Delta militants, Naij reports.
Commandant of the National Defence College, Samuel Alade said that the Nigerian Army had taken steps to produce its own hardware.
“We have an institution that was established basically to help develop production of hardware. “That is the Defence Industry Corporation, which is at Kaduna.
“That institution is being strengthened. I believe that in the new dispensation a lot of things will start happening. “As we speak, they produce rifles and some other hardware. “But I can assure you that we have started,” Alade said.
This came after President Muhammadu Buhari instructed the Ministry of Defence design a plan for the establishment of a military industrial complex for the production of weapons.
